It is one of those days at work - it is GORGEOUS outside and nobody feels much like working. Since I was here late last night that leaves less for me to do today so I get to slack off a little.
So far the running week is going well, although I feel a bit slow this week. I guess I am still not fully recovered from my race. I am taking it easy, just one tempo run this week and the rest is just slow mileage.
I must say that I think I am beginning to get a touch of bursitis. This is inflammation around the outer hip joint. It doesn't hurt too bad but I have been using ice and will keep a close eye on it. I looked it up and it isn't too big a deal (I don't have to stop running- yay!) but ice and anti-inflammatories are definitely in order!
Nonetheless, here is the breakdown of my training plan for March:
Monday - always an easy 4 miler
Tuesday - A tempo run increasing by 1 mile every two weeks with a 1 mile cooldown and1 mile warm up.(i.e.- tempo run this week was 3 miles, 2 weeks from now its 4 miles, ect.- will peak at 9 miles)
Wedensday - always an easy 5 miler
Thursday - 5 miler on a hillier course
Friday - REST
Saturday - Trail run increasing by 1 mile every two weeks (11 miles this week, 12 in two weeks, ect., peaking at 16)
Sunday - REST
Two or two and a half weeks prior to the race I will taper with very little running in the last week before the race.
The basic plan will continue as follows until two weeks before the half after which I will taper of course. I will peak at 40 mpw including a 9 mile TEMPO and 15 or 16 mile trail run. As April nears I will post the details of that.
Motivation is definitely at a high as everyone has been telling me how much weight I have lossed which is a great feeling. Hopefully when I get to that 40 mile week I can keep going!
Also, I welcome any suggestions concerning this training plan, I can always use some input, I am however, trying to avoid pounding it on the track to save my hip undue wear and tear...
Happy running to all and happy Ash Wedensday! Going to an early mass this morning of course has caused everyone to think I got beat up on the forhead today ensuing a short explanation consisting of - "It's a Catholic thing" -
Now to get some more tylenol....
